This week was productive, we are in crunch time, and though my group members are helping, they could help more. I am trying to make an effort to delegate, because I can no longer complete all of the work on my own. In spite of this, we are still on track, and I think that we can push through next week and pull together our project.

This week was only somewhat productive. We had the camping trip, which took two days of work, then the 5th period David jean work time, combined with the team meeting meant only one hour of work. Even though we did not have as much work time as usual, I have compensated by spending extra time at home to fill in the void. I believe that we are only slightly behind schedule, and when we return on Tuesday, I feel that we will be on track. From there, we just need to run through the presentation.

This week has been productive. I feel confident in our scientific PowerPoint, I am just worried about our final product. My concern is that come exhibition night, it will look like our group has accomplished nothing. All-in-all I feel like if we can work hard, we will be able tom complete our project successfully.

This week has been much better than last week. I think the time we spent to regroup was well worth it, we were able to redefine our focus, as well as come together as a group. I do feel a little behind schedule, but I think that we can pull it out in the end. We just have to put our minds to it.

-Took Size measurements to model our stand

-Contacted Gunner, filled him in on what was happening

This week has been frustrating to say the least. I feel like I have been doing a disproportionate amount of work, and this frustrates me. I went with no group members on Tuesday, and when Michio arrived he was some help on Wednesday. I have tried to refocus the group, and am hoping that when work resumes on Monday we will work better. I feel like we may be behind schedule, but so far I have reached all of my personal goals.

-I brought in the solar panels from my house into school, so I meet my goals for the week

-Measured solar panels in preparation for designing solar stand/ made some basic sketches

-Neither of my teammates were present today, but I hope that they were able to research about the solar filters, and design parts of the solar stand

Today my teammates were not here, so we were not able to accomplish the goals I had set forth, though I accomplished my personal goals for the week. If they are not here tomorrow, I will have to move forward on my plans without them. If they are not here I will move forward with designing the solar stand.

Today we had our meeting with Andrew. Gunner was not here, and I was helping out with the hiring bonanza. As a result we did not accomplish much today, but we laid out the goals for what we want to complete for next week. Those goals are:
- Secure the Solar Panel
- Revise the Business Plan to match HTH’s needs
- Continue to fundraise
- Design the stand to hold the solar panel, and bring in materials

-Had a meeting with Chris Gerber
-Prepped for meeting by collecting questions, and printing the PV master plan
-Helped Gunner Fundraise

-Michio took notes during the meeting
-Gunner sold our bake sale items

Our meeting with Chris Gerber was successful in the sense that we learned about HTH and what they would want out of a PV system. On the other hand we learned that HTH has gone through extensive research and found that a PV system would not be feasible for this site. This was discouraging, and we must draft our project accordingly.

-Finished Writing the Questions for Chris Gerber, did some other misc. prep
-Scheduled Interview, Thursday at 2:00 has been confirmed
-Went to Costco to buy items to sell in bake sale

-Michio improved the HTH model
-Gunner helped with the interview questions

Today I was able to get up and running again. The network was working the whole time, so I drafted the interview questions, and we prepared as a group for the interview. I am looking forward to the interview. We only have half an hour, so I think the time spent prepping is well needed.

-Responded to Chris Gerber’s e-mail
-Scheduled a interview with Chris Gerber, Thursday 2:00
-Formulated interview questions
-Changed plans by shying away from notch filter, and opted for light filters made for stage productions

-Michio modeled more on Google sketch up
-Gunner brainstormed on fundraising ideas, we were thinking of working with Danika’s group, but decided against it

Today the server was down for the most part of the day. With the server went the internet, so I was unable to work as good as I expected. I was finally able to access e-mail but that was not until 45 min. before the period was over. In order to prevent such a thing from happening in the future, I moved the stuff I need off the school server and onto my laptop.

-Helped Gunner with bake sale, we made about $20
-Helped Michio finish the model of HTH
-Researched where to find the filters for the solar panel, while the internet worked

-Gunner made cupcakes and sold them

Today we were hampered in productivity. The server was down, which meant that there was no internet, or e-mail. Unfortunately, there was an e-mail from Chris Gerber that we were not able to access. If there was e-mail though, I would have looked through the materials that Chris Gerber sent us about the HTH power consumption.

• Took the bearings to orient HTH
• Talked to Darrel and found the solar panels that we need, 3 volt, 20 miliamps
• Looked for filters, could not find what we are looking for

• Finished the HTH model on sketch up

Today I was pleasantly surprised; we found that after orienting HTH we found that HTH’s flaps are ideal for solar panels. When properly aligned, there is almost no shadow, and during the summer moths they are always in sun.

Today I accomplished:
-Learned how to use Google sketchup to model HTH, and how it can be used to show the angle of the sun and can help calculate solar panel efficiency, we were able to complete a pretty accurate model, and learned the contrary to popular belief, the angled roof may actually inhibit the use of solar panels.
-E-mailed Chris Gerber about the HTH info and asked for his help

-Modeled HTH as noted above
-Researched notch filters, and made draft 1 design of our potential interactive component

Today we accomplished a lot, though on paper it looks like we got nothing done, in actuality, we were very productive. I feel that through modeling HTH we were able to learn a lot about how the sun falls and casts shadows on the building. Hopefully we will be able to get more precise measurements from Chris in order to model it better.

-Learned how to use Google sketchup to model HTH, and how it can be used to show the angle of the sun and can help calculate solar panel efficiency
-Used maps to estimate the size and square footage of HTH

-Worked with Google sketchup to see how we could use it to model HTH
-Talked about our revised experiment, and how we are going to use notch filters to test how each wavelength of light effects the solar panel

3. Briefly describe how you and your partner(s) ASSISTED each other today:
EX: How did you learn from each other, teach each other, or help each other?

Today we took an opportunity to learn a new piece of software, and also took an opportunity to make our project more feasible. By opting for the notch filter experiment, we hope to better understand solar panels, and how they work. By better understanding how the solar cell works today we will be better able to report on how the solar cell will improve tomorrow.

-Re-thought our ideas, and general feasibility of the color experiment
-Even more research on the MIT Study of colored filters, and learned about the potential deployment of windows that are also solar panels

-Worked on bake sale what to buy, and when to do it
-Worked with Michio, and talked about the contact that he has that may potential, and talked about the contact that he has that may potentially provide us with a solar panel

In all today, we really took a step back to look at what we were trying to accomplish. As high school students it is clear that our resources are limited, and I think that we overshoot a little in our plans. Nonetheless, we are still planning to deliver just as good of a result, and through this minor obstacle I am confident that we will learn even more.

-Proposed the ideas for ok to the teacher, (you and Andrew)
-Researched the color, temperature, and spectrum of light and how they relate to solar panels
-Researched to effects of a color filter on solar panels

-Researched more on the effects of color filters
-Revised the project proposal, again
-Started work on bake sale preparation

EX: How did you learn from each other, teach each other, or help each other?

Today we really stepped back and took a look at our project. So far we are swimming in data, and seem to be confused as to the feasibility of our colored glass experiment. On the up side, we are really making progress in learning how a solar panel converts light into electricity, and learning how the industry has tried to perfect the process. Because this is a rather complex, (yet simple), idea, we have to rely on each other’s knowledge to understand the concept.
